Young people of color are fighting for their right to exist in their full bodies, with their full voices, in freedom, safety, joy, and power.
The intersection of race and gender is often ignored yet disparities for BYMOC, in particular, permeate every pillar of our society. Without transformative change, future generations of men of color will continue to experience reduced access to health and education, lost economic opportunities, higher incarceration rates, and overall systemic oppression. We have the opportunity to channel and elevate their power, change the narratives about BYMOC, train them as future field leaders, strengthen relationships across youth groups, fortify BYMOC organizations, and spur philanthropy to action on their behalf.
Our mission is to improve the life outcomes of YPOC, with a focus on BYMOC. We advocate for funding and resources to support youth-serving organizations that focus on equity and racial justice for BYMOC, identify and train the next generation of leaders, and build and share power within the YPOC ecosystem.
We envision a world where young people of color are thriving in safe, healthy, and flourishing communities. They have equitable access to resources and programming that employs culturally responsive healing practices. They have a strong sense of community and an understanding of each other—no matter their gender identity, cultural background, or life circumstances. BYMOC, in particular, are humanized and celebrated for the gifts that they are.
Our work needs to address three complementary forces in order to achieve real transformational change for future generations of BYMOC.
We fight to restore the humanity of BYMOC and afford them fair participation in our democracy. Our work fosters a process of reconciliation across cultural and race differences, redefinition of roles, leadership building, and intra-societal healing.
We reframe the narratives about BYMOC and dismantle toxic masculinity. Our work elevates the importance of protecting their human rights, opportunities, and public and community safety.
We strive to rebuild unprecedented opportunities for BYMOC through equitable policies, power building, and true allyship. They simply cannot settle for incremental change given the systemic issues they face, so neither will we.
